consulted Dr. Sloss before replying,
and the latter concurs in his views.
The reply expresses the belief that
a grant of £1,000 for the purpose suggested in our telegram would be gratefully accepted. Of the schemes
mentioned in that telegram, the
Acting Governor does not consider
that a Chair of Colonial History
would be entirely appropriate. On
the other hand he thinks that a
studentship for a post-graduate
course for students from Chinese
Universities
